JOSÉ MIGUEL

Born in Oporto, Portugal.

My passion for travel, nature and conservation comes from the times when I spent my mornings stuck to the television watching Jacques-Yves Cousteau and Sir David Attenborough’s series. In 1995 I founded my first adventure tourism company called Rumo ao Monte and in 1997 I finished university, where I graduated in Physical Education and Sport with a specialisation in Recreational and Leisure Sports.

Apart from this I have travelled extensively, led trips to Costa Rica and the Pyrenees, participated in scientific expeditions in Fiji and Greece, taken mountain, canyoning and rescue courses at the Spanish High Mountain School in Benasque.

In 2001 I founded Elemento Terra which quickly established itself as a leader in the adventure sports and outdoor training sector and in 2021, thanks to the experience gained over 20 years, became an adventure, cultural immersion and wildlife expedition agency.

Currently I am also the director of Opwall for the Iberian Peninsula (www.opwall-iberia.com), an international organisation dedicated to scientific research expeditions in biodiversity and conservation, open to young people from secondary school and university.

Spoken languages: Portuguese, English, Spanish and some French as well.
